In the latest episode of the Chinese historical drama Are You the One, which aired on August 13, 2024, viewers see a significant moment between the main characters Mian Tang, portrayed by Wang Churan, and Cui Xing Zhou, played by Zhang Wanyi. Episode 5 highlights a tense yet emotionally charged interaction between the couple.
The episode depicts Cui Xing Zhou in a state of drunkenness after overindulging in alcohol. Upon stumbling into the Cui Mansion, Mian Tang steps in to care for him. Despite his inebriated state and his demand for her to leave him alone, Mian Tang remains resolute and positive, trying to comfort him and insisting on caring for him. She expresses optimism about their future, despite their current struggles and the less glamorous living conditions compared to the capital. Her hopes are pinned on the success of their porcelain shop, which she believes will improve their circumstances.
Xing Zhou is perplexed by Mian Tang’s seemingly carefree attitude toward their challenges. Nevertheless, her reassurance and willingness to handle their problems provide him with a rare sense of relief. As he falls asleep, memories of their initial encounter resurface. He recalls the incident when Mian Tang’s carriage was sabotaged, leading to her being found unconscious by the riverbed—a moment that marked the beginning of their relationship.
The next morning, he finds out that Mian Tang has not been feeling well. He hands her some money he won at Go competitions to use for business. She gets really emotional and even tears up to see his kind gesture. Xing Zhou doesn’t know how to console her.
In a conversation with Zhao Quan, he shares that Mian Tang wants to share responsibilities with him. Quan is impressed by her diligence. He asks Xing Zhou if he will be able to kill such a kind-hearted woman. Xing Zhou mentions that he doesn’t know what to do with her. He knows that she has been shunned by society, and her hand tendons were cut off by Lu Wen’s enemies. She won’t have it easy if he leaves her to fetch for herself. To top it off, she doesn’t have a family. Xing Zhou wonders if he should give her prize money if she helps him catch the thieves.
Why is Wang Churan upset with Zhang Wanyi?
Mian Tang comes across Miss He’s porcelain shop while roaming around the market. The shop bustling with customers catches her eye. She comes to know about the trade guild that selected businesses acquire and how it can help attract customers. She impresses Miss He with her wit and expresses her wish to join the trade guild. But to her surprise, Miss He warns her about joining the trade and asks her to seek help from her husband instead. She mentions that the guild doesn’t accept female members.
Xing Zhou comes home and promises Mian Tang to join the guild on her behalf. But she knows that he is not aware of how to handle the porcelain business. In fact, he doesn’t know how porcelain is made. Xing Zhou suggests that they look for another business to focus on. Even when Mian Tang insists, he is firm in his decision.
What happens in Are You the One episode 5’s ending?
Further into the episode, Mian Tang visits the guild association and makes a deal with young Mr. He. He makes a vague promise to let her join the guild if she manages to sell her items to the Royal Family. The opportunity presents itself when Lord Huiyang visits the town. Mian Tang impresses him with a porcelain water tank and gets a reward. But Xing Zhou, who is Lord Huiyang, quickly hides when he spots his wife.
But even then, Mr. He dismisses his son’s promise and refuses to let her into the guild. Furthermore, Xing Zhou also refuses to help her with the matter. Mian Tang’s heart breaks to see her husband behave this way.
