The upcoming DLC Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns will reintroduce Cyrax and Sektor as playable characters for the first time since Mortal Kombat (2011). The latest trailer highlights Cyrax’s gameplay and features story cinematics with the Lin Kuei assassin.
Who is Cyrax in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns?
In this new iteration, Cyrax is portrayed as a female human, a departure from her traditional depiction as a male cyborg assassin of the Lin Kuei. Historically, Cyrax, along with Sektor and Smoke, were human assassins before being converted into cyborgs through the Cyber Initiative. This change in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns may offer a fresh perspective on her backstory, although details on how this aligns with or deviates from the series’ lore are yet to be confirmed.
In the new Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns trailer, Cyrax questions Sub Zero’s plan to crash Scorpion’s wedding. It seems she follows his orders anyways, as we see her attack the Wu Shi. Johnny Cage funnily remarks, “Oh, hell no. We are not doing the Red Wedding,” referencing Game of Thrones. Understandably, Kung Lao has no idea what he is talking about, so Cage replies, “Season 3, episode 9!” Cyrax and Scorpion have a moment, and a showdown between Cyrax and Sektor is shown.
The trailer finishes gruesomely, showcasing one of Cyrax’s fatalities. Essentially, she takes Cage’s head off with her foot, flings it in the air, kicks it back at his body, and then stomps on it. There is also a glimpse of her animality, which turns her into a wasp.
Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns introduces a number of new features to the fighting game. This includes a new story campaign, six new playable fighters, and the return of animalities.
Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 24, 2024.
